Builders to Attend "Mold Bootcamp" At PCBC 2002; Session is "Hot Ticket" for Dealing with Fastest-Growing Area of Construction-Dispute Litigation

Business Editors - PCBC® The Premier Building Show

San Francisco - June 21, 2002 - So-called "toxic" mold, the hottest sector of construction dispute litigation today, is the subject of an all-day, intensive "Mold Bootcamp: A Comprehensive Guide to Preventing & Resolving Mold Problems" at the upcoming PCBC® The Premier Building Show, June 25-28, 2002, in San Francisco.

Mold has always been ubiquitous in the environment, yet it is suddenly the subject of multi-million dollar lawsuits, some featuring such celebrity combatants as Erin Brockovich and Ed McMahon, each of whom has sued over the effects of mold in their homes. In Texas, a jury awarded homeowners $32 million in damages, and a suit in New York sought $65 million in wrongful-death damages.

Faced with such suits, builders are scrambling to put in place measures to find and resolve mold complaints. Meanwhile, liability insurers have rushed to exclude mold from coverage.

On Tuesday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., attendees in this sought-after pre-conference workshop will learn techniques and strategies to potentially save millions in claims and allay mold-related concerns in a workshop led by Stan Luhr, president of Pacific Property Consultants and a nationally recognized expert in construction quality and building failures.

The training will cover the cause and prevention of water intrusion and mold problems, what causes mold and how to attack it, and why so many mold claims are spurious. Joining Luhr in the session to discuss legal strategies are: Charles Grebing of Wingert, Grebing, Brubaker & Ryan; R. Jane Lynch, Cox, Castle & Nicholson LLP; and Shawn D. Morris of Morris, Sullivan & Vivoli.

The $245 fee includes lunch and a course workbook.

PCBC® The Premier Building Show is presented each year by the California Building Industry Association for residential developers and their project teams. For information, visit www.pcbc.com.

Pacific Property Consultants has been retained on more than 1,900 construction defect claims, helping builders and their risk partners identify, contain and resolve construction claims and customer service problems. Luhr is the originator of the Quality Built® System, that includes a mandatory design review of building plans; field training and education; and third-party inspections.
